So, I’m writing this from Joel’s (DP) couch, which will serve not only as my office but also as my bed for the next eight weeks.
Energy is high and so far, things are going well. We’re now in the Pre-production phase which includes our casting, location scouting, crew assembly and numerous creative conversations that involve the look, feel and overall tone of the film.
Joel and I are hard at work polishing the script and set to do a few camera tests today. Yesterday we recieved our tape stock and you could really start to feel the gears begin to move.
The movie is now taking shape and we have a lot of wonderful help and support from friends and family.
I’m not going to lie and say that it isn’t tough already. As with any independent production there’s always going to be financial concerns and unforseen, uncontrollable variables, that constantly force us to question why we are even doing this in the first place. But, our morale is not shaken and the prospect of creating something beautiful and tragic, to share with all of you, keeps us going.
After lunch (most likely the beans and eggs mentioned above) Joel and I will be meeting with a Bail Bondsman, in an effort to consult with a man whose real life is the essence of what we are trying to capture.
Then we move on to our camera tests for the day. We’re gonna play around with the equipment and try and nail down a look for the movie.
We then meet with our producer Alex to talk about our fundraiser this saturday at the Starz Film Center here in Denver. You’re all welcome to join us. We will be answering question about the film and giving a presentation on what we attempt to achieve with this ambitious undertaking.
THEN…. I’m off to a hardcore show to see my friend Enrique’s band The Chalet and watch their last show of the year. Enrique is our potential on set photograper and has thus far served as somewhat of a casting director. Click the photo above to check out some of his work. The show is at The Marquis on Larimer, if you’d like to go.
The production blog is still in it’s fetal stages, so please bare with me as it takes shape over the next few days. We’re playing our cards pretty close in an effort to keep things exciting and mysterious, and also to make sure we don’t post anything that might make us look like fools. So the details of the flick are going to be available shortly. We’ve got plenty to do and the posts will be infrequent. But, if you have the will to follow our progress, I promise we’ll have a lot of wonderful things to show you along the way.
Wish us luck.
Stephen
